Life Starts When You Take Responsibility
Responsibility
They say the future belongs to the
youth but they have to start claiming that now. We are so carried away by life
and childhoodness as youth believing that life is supposed to work based on our plan (without working for it). We are
supposed to have good government without us acting and being good, we are
supposed to move around with the best cars (provided by our family), we are
supposed to have everything ordered for us online and it will arrive at the
speed of light on our table. This is not reality for most of us – because we
have shifted the responsibility of our lives to someone, to circumstances and
to the world.
Our lives start when we start taking
responsibilities – responsibility for our actions and for our inactions,
responsibility for our lives and our environment, responsibility for thoughts
and our outcomes. Responsibility is
simply a duty, an obligation and it entails being accountable. Neale Donald
Walsch puts the concept of being responsible in a different way:
“Life
begins at the end of your comfort zone”
The moment you realize that it all
depends on you and not your parents, or your aunties and uncles or your friends
and compassions, or those wealthy people you intentionally or inadvertently
blame, or the economy of the world, that is when your life begins, that is when
you start living a serious life and it starts with a sense of responsibility
and that responsibility lies within you and nothing else and nobody else.
Like a great, Jocko Willink rightly says:
“Extreme Ownership.
Leaders must own everything in their
world.
There
is no one else to blame”
Good Reasons or Success
We are so good at blaming. We are so
good at justifying why it did not come out good. There is no blame game in
life. There is no excuse. You can only output two things in life – “Good Reasons” or “Success”. Is either you succeed or you provide good reasons and we
are so good at proving good reasons – even when there isn’t any, we search and
research and fine-tune it and make the reasons good enough for our failures,
our ineptitude, for being late or for anything we don’t want. Once you take
away the good reasons behind why you fail, why you are not producing at your
best, why you are always late, then you get yourself liberated and you will
forge ahead in life. Start owing your life and your destiny by being
responsible for it. It starts there – just a step and another step and another
step and each of these steps is a decision.
Prevent Excuses and Good Reasons
As much as I can, I prevent excuses and good reasons – I work towards that. I am supposed to be in a place by
4pm and for whatever reason I get there by 4:30pm and the reason was good
enough for me being late – I think personally, by my own standard, I have
failed myself.
Growing up used to be very irresponsibility and had a good reason for that. The truth is that, if you don’t know anything and you don’t know that you don’t know, that is a huge problem. This means that you have not even start to look at the direction of having a solution yet. You are lost! You don’t have to argue – I tell you I used to do it a lot. I was so good good at being ignorant without knowing it – not even an iota of that – I was good at being unteachable without realizing that is eating me up.
Reasons Why We Don't Realize That We are Ignorant:
- We are not willing to face the truth about ourselves - we are not ready to face reality and we do not want to be ready.
- We are living among liars - those around us are not telling us the truth and if they are, we are not working towards learning.
- Maybe
because we are still achieving result – comparatively or moderately good
result without realizing that we can achieve 10x or even 100x what we are
achieving now.
- We are just want to be lazy – we don’t want to put their brain into use
- And
some of us, because of fear – we don’t want to change their lives.
Start today by being Responsible. Stop
blaming anyone or anything. Be teachable and stay humble looking for every
opportunity to learn and gain knowledge. Take responsibility as a leader, as a
kid, as a teacher, as a student, as a human and I bet you your life will be
greatly transformed.
